Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

The Disability Inclusion Act 2018 (SA) requires Council to prepare and implement a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) that promotes the rights of people with disability to participate fully and safely in community life. The DAIP must also align with the State Disability Inclusion Plan.

The DAIP aims to improve access to appropriate services and supports, expand opportunities for participation, and create a welcoming and inclusive community for people with disability who live in or visit Gawler.

Shaping a More Inclusive Gawler

In recent months, Council has undertaken a comprehensive and inclusive community engagement process to help inform the development of Gawler’s new DAIP.

Between December 2025 and March 2026, more than 330 people participated in a range of community engagement activities.

This engagement process centred lived experience, recognised community strengths and supported collaboration between Council and the community to co-design practical and achievable actions.

The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan Engagement Outcomes Report provides a detailed overview of the community engagement process that occurred.
