The Town of Gawler supporting a major upgrade to the Gawler and Districts Tennis Association Precinct at Essex Park, delivering a modern, regional-standard sporting facility for the local community.
The project is now in its final stages and will deliver a competition-ready, accessible facility for both tennis and pickleball.
The redevelopment includes the reconstruction and expansion of the precinct to a total of 12 fully compliant tennis courts and 6 pickleball courts complete with competition-standard LED lighting for both day and night play. The project also delivers improved boundary fencing and player amenities, including shelters, alongside upgraded irrigation systems to ensure the courts remain in top condition.
This investment is jointly funded through contributions from all levels of government and key partners:
- $1.153 million – Australian Government (Thriving Suburbs Program)
- $582,000 – South Australian Government (Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program)
- $360,000 – Town of Gawler (plus in-kind project management and staff costs)
- $100,000 – Tennis Australia (National Court Rebate Program)
- $100,000 – Gawler & District Tennis Association
The project will be completed on 25 February 2026, providing a high-quality regional sporting venue supporting casual players, juniors, and competitive tournaments alike, strengthening community sporting opportunities in Gawler.
