Background
Located within Jack Cooper Reserve off Hibbard Drive in Hillier, the existing reserve space is set to receive a brand-new playground designed to support Hillier’s growing population with an inclusive, vibrant and engaging playspace for all ages.
In line with the Town of Gawler’s Playspace Strategy, the neighbourhood reserve presents an opportunity for a new Classification ‘C’ playspace to be integrated into the reserve as part of the 2026/27 Playspace Renewal Program. Please note this classification level does not include toilets. An initial round of community engagement took place in late 2024, including a survey, on-site consultation and family feedback sessions to help inform the two preliminary playspace designs.
Now, in May 2026, Council is inviting the community to participate in a secondary round of engagement to help select the preferred design and provide feedback to shape the final playspace ahead of construction in the 2026/27 financial year.
What’s Being Proposed
The proposed playspace aims to build on the features and amenity of the area while improving community activation, enhancing the local environment, and increasing the overall usability and enjoyment of the reserve. Two designs have been developed for the community to choose from, derived by the placemaking themes of the site including:
- The Gawler River
- Hillier's Dairy Industry History
Both designs have been driven by the guiding principles of:
- Play opportunities for all ages and abilities
- Accessibility and inclusivity for all
- Integration into the surrounding environment & retention of existing amenities
- Additional seating and shade
- Integration of fencing or barrier to increase site safety
